'The Lungs Of The House'

Flagstones are referred to as ‘The lungs of the house’, as they help to regulate the moisture content of the building. Our aim is to get things breathing again and to transform your natural stone floor to its former glory.

Manors to Cottages

We have a wealth of experience in all sorts of buildings that have stone floors.

History Under Your Feet

Not only are flagstones hard wearing, beautiful pieces of stone – each one is a unique piece of history that needs to be looked after and preserved for future generations. Our restoration process keeps your stones in tip-top condition whilst retaining their natural beauty.

We are delighted with the restoration - the flagstones look beautiful. They started to look great after the shot-blasting, but the final polish was the icing on our cake.

James and his team arrived when promised and efficiently completed the restoration of our flagstones. They were organised, extremely clean and tidy and the finished product beyond our expectations. Our entrance hall is truly a showstopper when entering our home. We would recommend James and his team and thank them for all they did.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank your company and in particular Yourself and Matthew for carrying out the work on our Blue Lias flagstone floors in our 17th Century farmhouse. When we purchased our property in November of 2015 the floors were mostly (some still are) beneath carpeting, which upon the removal found the flagstones to be in a poor and largely unattractive condition, although you did assert they were sound.   Your assurance though that a traditional three and a half centuries old surface could be restored to its original attractive state was the basis on which you were instructed to execute the work.   The week’s work which you commenced on the date promised and finished as scheduled, has now left us with a problem; what do we do with the removed carpets?   I don’t think that my wife and I ever  considered that the sections of floor that we had effectively written off as not fit to be seen would enhance our home and potentially its value to such a degree.   Once again thankyou; furthermore we would be pleased to recommend your work to anybody in the same position as ourselves.

We are thrilled by the transformation you have wrought bringing life back to our much abused and badly neglected flag floors.
You have achieved exactly the right balance making the floors serviceable and practical without robbing them of their natural character. I was sceptical about your assurances that the process was virtually dust free so must apologize,no mess, astonishing!

" Flagstones look fantastic and wish we had had them restored years ago. Great service from James and lots of attention to minimise and contain the dust which was actually much less than we had expected."

James Thurtle's work has transformed our large hall and study floors from cold and dusty grey to a much warmer, richly deep colour. When combined with a stable rather than dusty finish the result has proved to be extremely worthwhile.
